Terms used in Golf & their description
It when you put the ball in the hole in the number of strokes the hole is meant to be played in. for example in a par 3 if you get the ball in the hole in 3 strokes it is par.
It is when you get the ball in the hole in one stroke more than the hole needs to be played in. Like for example in a par 4, you put the ball in the hole in 5 strokes. That is one more stroke than the holes need to be played in.
It is when the hole is played 2 strokes more than the allotted number of strokes the hole is meant to play in. For example on a par 5 you shoot a 7 then it is called a double bogey.
It is when the hole is played 3 strokes more than the allotted number of strokes the hole is meant to play in. For example on a par 5 you shoot a 3 then it is called a triple bogey.
It is when the hole is played 4 strokes more than the allotted number of strokes the hole is meant to play in. For example on a par 5 you shoot a 9 then it is called a quadruple bogey.
It is when you put the ball in the hole in 1 stroke on a par 3. It is also called a hole in one.
It is the hole is played 2 stokes less than the allotted number of strokes the hole is meant to play in. For example, if it is a par 4 and you sink your second shot in the hole then it is called an eagle. Because you sunk the ball in hole 2 under the number of strokes the hole is meant to be played in.
It is the hole is played 1 stoke less than the allotted number of strokes the hole is meant to play in. For example, if it is a par 4 and you sink your third shot in the hole then it is called a birdie. Because you sunk the ball in hole 1 shot under the number of strokes the hole is meant to be played in.
